A Yemenite Bride's Labbeh, Wearable as Necklace - Rita Okrent Collection (NE604)

RARE FIND: only one in our inventory

A gorgeous Yemeni bride's labbeh or labba, worn on the bride's chin. A traditional part of a bride's dowry.

As seen on p. 123 of Silver Treasures from the Land of Sheba, by Marjorie Ransom (2014).

Found in Sanaa and also in the Southern Mountains.

Condition: Very good. We are adding a sterling silver Rita clasp to this necklace (not in pictures) to make it wearable without modification.

Age: Circa early 20th century. 

Measurements:  15 inches end to end, 11.5 inches end to end without side pieces. Dangles themselves are 8 inches long. 

Weight: 654 grams. - 1lb 7 oz. Silver/metal mixed content, needed for strength in piece.

Note: It does not feel heavy when worn - it just feels glamorous!!
