Vintage Prayer Bead Strand, Middle East - Rita Okrent Collection (ANT618)

RARE FIND: only one in our inventory

A vintage Middle Eastern prayer bead strand of 33 white clam shell (Tridacna) beads, divided into three sections by two small openwork metal spacers. The strand finishes in a long black and silver-tone imame (pointer), a textured spacer bead, an openwork ball and a fringe of fine chain tassels ending in small ball drops.

Why We Love It
The classic 33-bead count, used for dhikr and cycled 3 times to complete the 99 recitations.
The black and silver-tone imame has worn naturally with handling, showing it was well used.
The chain tassel is finely made, with a decorative cap and ball drops at each end.

Provenance: Middle East; from an old collection
Age: Vintage
Dimensions: Total length top to bottom approximately 10 inches. 33 beads, 8–10 mm; dangle 11 cm (4.3 in)
Condition: Good vintage condition. The black finish on the imame has worn through in places, exposing the metal underneath. There is light surface wear and minor spotting on some beads. The metal has not been tested for silver content.
