Antique Glass Talhakimt Tanfouk Pendants from the Sahara - Rita Okrent Collection (P764)

Color: Navy - Dark Blue

LIMITED AVAILABILITY: only 6 left

A selection of antique, colorful glass talhakimt - tanfouk amulets from the West African Trade. Circa early 1900's.
Glass talhakimt pendants were produced by both the French and Czech-Bohemian bead industries during the trade bead era, in this case between the late 19th and early 20th centuries. They were exported mainly to West Africa, where they were believed to have amuletic properties, including for fertility. Mauritanian women wore them in elaborate headdresses, plaited into long braids.

Several colors available. Most amulets have striped and cross hair pattern.
Condition: These amulets are in very good condition, though some have dirt and wear.
Size: Pendant sizes vary between 2-2.25 inches / 5- 5.7 cm tall.
Photos are representative of available amulets. Your amulet will resemble the representative photo closely.
