Small Vintage Tuareg Tcherot from the Sahara - Rita Okrent Collection (P892)

RARE FIND: only one in our inventory

Tuareg Tcherot amulet of metal and bronze with etched silver decoration.
Tuareg talisman boxes or "Tcherots" were worn on necklaces by nomadic Tuareg women and on Tuareg men's turbans. They often contain verses of the Quran and were worn as protective amulets, for fertility and for strength. Tuareg girls are given Tcherots by their mother when they reach the age of seventeen. Given the size of this amulet, it was likely that it originally belonged to a young woman.

Why we love this amulet:
Small enough to be worn on a more delicate frame.
In good condition with lovely wear.
Could be used in so many varied designs.

Measurements:
Measures 5.1 cm / 2 inches tall (from bar). by 3.8 cm/1.5 inches wide at widest point. Missing 1 decorative bead on right bottom.Hooks for stringing on top on each side.

Pendant Item 892
