Antique Chinese Silver Opium Pipe Bowl with Dragon Repoussé - Rita Okrent Collection (C682)

RARE FIND: only one in our inventory

A rare, substantial opium pipe bowl in a squat rounded form, with dense repoussé decoration including a curving dragon and clouds.

The squat rounded form with large oval opening is the classic opium pipe bowl format. The single wide bore socket with beaded collar ring confirms its function as the bowl fitting of a luxury pipe assembled for a wealthy user — working-class smokers used ceramic or base metal; silver was a marker of status and refinement.

Circa Late Qing Dynasty (19th century).

Provenance: Sourced by Rita in China or Hong Kong in the 1985.

Condition and Details:Tests as high silver which is consistent with high-grade Qing dynasty domestic silversmithing. 25mm tall x 38.6mm wide, 36 grams.

Exceptional workmanship.
