Vintage Silver Zar Amulet, Egypt, Throne Verse with Dangles, Hallmarked - Rita Okrent Collection (P407c)

Reserved: A highly collectible Zar amulet used in traditional Zar ceremonies in Egypt.

The Throne Verse is imprinted on both sides of this Zar amulet. The Throne Verse is  one of the best-known verses of the Quran and is widely memorized and displayed in the Muslim World and recited to ward off evil.

Collected by Rita in Egypt in the 1980's. Circa mid-20th Century.

Good condition. Some wear in the middle due to use. Hallmarked. 1 3/4 inches across. 17.8 grams. Mixed silver and coin silver content.

Similar to amulets seen in reference text, "The Traditional Jewelry of Egypt" (Azza Fahmy) and the text "Silberschmuck aus Agypten".
