A rare and exquisite large antique silver and coral braid ornament from the Draa Valley in Morocco. Thought to resemble the ancient shape of a goddess or a gate to Paradise/mosque door.
Measures 3.65 inches / 9.27 cm long (excludes bails), 1.8 inches / 4.6 cm wide.
Weight: 32.4 grams.
Circa 1940's approximately.
These braid ornaments were traditionally painted instead of enameled but this ornament has only a remnant of color remaining on it. It also has bails for 3 hanging coins, but the dangles and coins are missing, and middle bail appears to have been added later.
Note: As per Google, the Draa Valley is situated in the southern region of Morocco, extending from the town of Ouarzazate to the outskirts of Zagora. It is renowned for its verdant palm groves, picturesque oases, and the meandering Draa River.
