Old Tuareg agate talhakimt / tanfouk amulets / rings.

Talhakimt are amulets worn by the fierce nomadic Berber Tuareg people of Saharan Africa to avert evil and illness. They are also worn as hair ornaments. Traditionally, young Tuareg men wear numerous talhakimt around their fingers to create a clinking noise when hit together, intending to call the attention of young women to courtship.

Manufactured in Idar-Oberstein, Germany, from Brazilian agate, and exported to Africa for trade purposes.

Sold individually. Wonderful as focal pendants! Circa Mid 20th century
