Yemeni Multi-Strand Silver Labbeh Wedding Necklace - Rita Okrent Collection (NE458)

Yemeni multi strand silver labbeh necklace with triangular end pieces, faux coral glass beads, and hanging pendants. Now includes sterling silver Rita hook and eye clasp for closure.

Some nice cornerless cube beads and small Yemeni berry beads. 

Likely used as part of a dowry.

Resembles labbeh necklace featured in Marjorie Ransom’s definitive reference text, Silver Treasures from the Land of Sheba, on p. 232, as being from the South of Yemen / Ethiopia.

Circa mid-20th century.

Measures 10 inches / 25.4 cm across the shortest strand including decorative end pieces (not including chain in back which extends length).
