Vintage Silver Zar Amulet, Egypt, Sitt Safina, Hallmarked - Rita Okrent Collection (P407b)

A highly collectible Zar amulet used in traditional Zar ceremonies in Egypt.

The image is of the demon Sitt Safina, depicted as a mermaid and said to live in the Nile (Desert Silver, Sigrid van Roode).

Throne verse is incribed on the opposite side. The Throne Verse is one of the best-known verses of the Quran and is widely memorized and displayed in the Muslim World and recited to ward off evil.

Collected by Rita in Egypt in the 1980's.

Good condition. Hallmarked. 2 inches across. 10.5 grams.
