A 24 inch strand of 39 well-matched antique pigeon egg beads from the African trade, in warm shades of yellow and amber-orange.
Why We Love It
Wonderful color palette and markings.
Unusual translucency that lets light play through each bead.
A pretty bead useful in many types of designs.
Provenance: Manufactured in Bohemia (Czech Republic), traded into Ethiopia and other parts of Africa.
Age: 1920s–1930s
Dimensions: Strand measures 24 inches / 61 cm. Beads measure 13-14mm / 1/2-9/16 in diameter, 15-16mm / 5/8 in hole to hole.
Condition: Excellent condition overall, with light surface wear and small age markings visible on some beads, consistent with age and handling.

UPS and Priority Shipping Services via USPS are available for an additional fee.
For China and India, and some other regions, we only use UPS, FedEX, or USPS Priority Express Mail International, due to better tracking and reliability of delivery.

These pieces are glowing! They are so beautiful!!! I picture women wearing them in the sun and imagine how they must have gleamed in their hair. The white ornament surely glinted with sunlight! The ornaments must have moved so gracefully in their hair and with the light striking the pieces. I imagine this was an incredible thing to see! I feel like I understand these adornments in ways I never could have, not having seen them in person before.
