Strand of 10 Antique Baltic Amber Beads from Mauritania - RIta Okrent Collection (C477b)

Strand of 10 mixed sized disk beads. Opaque to translucent.

These are natural amber, not copal or phenolic resin.

Amber is often used in traditional jewelry in Mali and Mauritania, and in Morocco.

Circa 1800’s. Traded for many years, so exact age is unknown.

Weight: 9.2 grams (without string). 12-19mm diameter range. 3-10mm width (hole to hole). Hole sizes vary.
