A large charming Chinese silver infant amulet, used to promote fertility in new brides (in hope of a baby boy) and as protective amulet once the baby was born.
Measures 2.6 inches / 6.7 cm tall including bail, 1.6 inches / 4.2 cm wide at widest point. 17 grams. Built in bail. Unknown silver content/ not sterling silver. Suitable size to be used as a focal pendant.
From the Chinese Qing Dynasty, early 1900’s. Sourced by Rita in the early 1980's.
