Big Group of Loose Ancient Amazonite Beads in Mixed Shapes and Sizes - Rita Okrent Collection (S532)

RARE FIND: only one in our inventory

A generous lot of 60 ancient amazonite beads from Mauritania, in a useful mix of shapes, sizes, and tones.

Why We Love These

  • The range of beads— big and small, disc and barrel and rounded forms, all in one place.
  •  Lovely individual beads for all sorts of designs.
  • The variation in hue, which is natural to amazonite and part of what gives each bead its own personality.

Provenance: Mauritania. Amazonite has been made into beads across the Sahara since Neolithic times, and this region in particular was a source prized across West and North Africa, with beads like these moving along trade routes that later became the great trans-Saharan caravan trails.
Age: Ancient
Dimensions: 4-12 mm diameter.
Condition: Worn / good.
Note: Only one group like this.
