Bedouin Silver Hirz Prayer Amulet, with Dangles and Top Bails - Rita Okrent Collection (P727)

Bedouin or Yemeni silver Hirz prayer amulet.

Circa mid-1900's.

This amulet was probably once opened and contained  a quote or verse from the Koran. Likely to have been and element in a traditional wedding necklace or dowry.

Detailed silverwork - could have originated in Yemen.

Damage to silverwork at the top of one end and at the bottom of the other. Not obvious when holding up or used as pendant.

Sourced in Jerusalem from an old silver collection (hidden deep in a drawer of a dealer in the Old City).

Measures 2.18 inches/ 5.5 cm in length. Weighs 19.4 grams.
