A Group of 5 Small to Medium Excavated Islamic Ancient Glass Beads with Yellow Eyes. One bead is green glass and one has green and yellow eyes.
These very special ancient excavated glass beads are found in Mauritania and Mali, specifically in the caravan towns of Timbuktu, Mopti, Djenne and Gao. They vary in design and wear, and iridescence, and are estimated to be somewhere in between 600-1000 years old, or more.
Traded and worn to keep away the "evil eye" in many cultures across the Mediterranean. Yellow eyes are more unusual. Very collectible beads with lots of character and history.
Size and design varies per bead. Sizes range from 8-11mm hole to hole and approximately 9-11mm diameter.
Sold as a group.
