Choice of Short Strands of Antique Phenolic Resin Beads - Rita Okrent Collection (ANT525)

Size: C

RARE FIND: only one in our inventory

A selection of short strands of mixed old Phenolic resin beads from the African Trade.

Circa 1950's, approximately, these beads were produced in Europe for the African Trade, and were made to resemble real amber (especially an issue after access to Baltic amber became limited after WWII). These beads are traditionally used as hair beads and worn in necklaces by African women, and come through Mauritania to eventually land in Rita's collection. Interesting research: the diamond shaped beads may have been carved from round beads!

Very collectible and useful beads for jewelry design.

Strand A: 10 beads, one bead is double drilled and has a chip at the hole, 34.4 grams, round and rounded tube shapes. Round beads range around 17-19mm diameter.

Strand B: 7 beads, all double-drilled, 44.5 grams, 34.4 grams, round bead shapes. Size ranges around 22-24mm diameter.

Available: Strand C: 9 beads, mixed rounded tubes and round beads. Tubes range from 15-21mm in length, round beads measure 17-18x12-13mm approximately. 32 grams.

Strand D: 4 beads,  14 grams, round shapes, range around 17-19mm diameter.

Strand E: 7 beads, two beads are actually round (vs flat/round), 51 grams. Round beads measure around 18mm, focal bead measures 32x21mm.
