Antique Silver Southern Cross Pendant with Lovely Patina from Morocco - Rita Okrent Collection (P1002)

RARE FIND: only one in our inventory

This Southern or Boghdod Cross pendant is adorned with large granulation and fine circles of metal. Lovely soft wear. A beauty to treasure or make into a focal pendant for a special creation.

Age: early 1900's (estimated).

Condition: The pendant appears to have been mended in the back. One side of the main rectangular decorative bail has a little damage (superficial). The denting is not noticeable from the front and the top bail variation doesn't  catch the eye.

Size: Measures 2.2 inches/ 56mm tall and 1.9 inches/49mm wide (at widest point). .5 inch /14mm thick.

"This type of pendant seems to be strongly connected to the Moors, and those with contact with the Moors, including the nomadic peoples in the Western part of the Sahara and all the other related groups as well as those who came under their influence, such as the sedentary people to the North such as the Harratine and south west Moroccan Berbers and the black skinned Sahel peoples in the region to the south.
